Omar W. Nasim

Omar W. Nasim did his B.A. (hons.) in Philosophy from the University of Manitoba, and then a PhD in 2007 from the University of Toronto at the department of Philosophy (with Alasdair Urquhart and Ian Hacking). Between 2005-2006 Nasim was a Fellow of the DAAD Graduate Exchange Program at the University of Konstanz, Germany. His first book was published in 2008 and is entitled, Bertrand Russell and the Edwardian Philosophers: Constructing the World, Palgrave MacMillan Press. In this book Nasim examines the novel application of constructive logical techniques to the problem of the external world, perception and seeing, notions which were usually accounted for, instead, by some form of psychological construction at the end of the 19th century. Beginning in 2007, Nasim started as a Postdoctoral Fellow with the project _Knowledge in the Making_ (Wissen im Entwurf: Zeichnen und Schreiben als Verfahren des Forschung) first at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin (2007-2008), and then continued with the same fellowship and project at the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz (KHI) (2008-2009). In this project, entitled _Constructing the Heavens: Drawings of Nebulae in Victorian Science_, Nasim continued to pursue his interests in construction, observation and theories of perception, but with a special focus on scientific observation’s relationship to the act of drawing and note-taking in nebular astronomy. Omar Nasim is currently working as a Senior Research Fellow at the Chair for Science Studies (ETH- Zürich) and a Member of the NFS Bildkritik "Eikones" (Universität Basel).
